The HomeDoor Professional Bundle
Open Door Networks, Inc. is the leading manufacturer of "multi-domain" products for Macintosh Internet servers. Multi-domain products enable a single Internet server to provide independent services for multiple domain names, greatly leveraging the investment in that server and radically simplifying overall administration and network management. Open Door's multi-domain products help Macintosh Webmasters turn their single Mac server into multiple independent servers, each with a complete set of services accessible through a unique domain name.
The HomeDoor Professional Bundle combines Open Door's three most popular multi-domain products in one package, providing the easiest and most economical way for a Webmaster to make multi-domain services available from a single Macintosh. The bundle helps Macintosh Webmasters provide Web site owners with the principal services site owners now expect from their Web site:
- First and foremost, site owners expect a complete set of Web pages accessible through their own domain name. This set includes both a home page accessible directly through a simple URL like http://www.companyX.com, and a set of files and folders accessible through URLs like http://www.companyX.com/pathname-to-file-or-folder.
- Along with their full virtual Web site, Web site owners expect a complete log file listing every single access made to their site. In addition, many are also coming to expect real-time summaries of accesses to their site.
- Site owners also expect a set of e-mail addresses associated with their site. Specifically, they expect the "Webmaster" and "Info" e-mail addresses to be available at their domain name (that is "Webmaster@companyX.com" and "Info@companyX.com"). They also usually have a need for additional addresses such as "Sales" and "Support".
The three pieces of the HomeDoor Professional Bundle enable Macintosh Webmasters to make these three expected services available for each site on a single Macintosh server:
- The HomeDoor Default Home Page Server allows a single Mac Web server to host up to 256 independent sites, each with its own domain name. With HomeDoor, Webmasters can provide each site on their server with its own URL of the form http://www.companyX.com, plus make available any number of files and folders within the virtual domain. HomeDoor even includes a log file which helps Webmasters keep track of accesses on a domain-by-domain basis.
- The LogDoor Multi-site Log Processor provides independent log files and real-time access statistics for each site on a Mac Web server. With LogDoor, Webmasters can make available, in real time, complete log files for each site on their server. Webmasters can also obtain access statistics on a site-by-site basis, and make those statistics available to site owners over the Web. LogDoor even presents the Webmaster with a real-time, site-by-site display of overall activity on the Web server itself, providing immediate insights into server usage which might be missed otherwise.
- The MailDoor Multi-domain Mail Clerk rounds out the bundle by working with the Apple Internet Mail Server (AIMS) to provide independent sets of e-mail addresses for each domain on the server. MailDoor enables unique "Webmaster" and "Info" addresses for each domain, plus any other addresses which are desired by the site owner. MailDoor also serves as a mail clerk, sorting e-mail by domain name and then forwarding that mail as appropriate. (Please note that the version of MailDoor included with this evaluation bundle is a beta version).
Additionally, if you purchase the HomeDoor Professional Bundle, not only do you get special pricing, but you are also entitled to a discount on QuickDNS Pro from Men and Mice. QuickDNS Pro sets up and manages the domain names to be used by the services on your server, and is a great complement to the products in the bundle.
All components of the HomeDoor Professional Bundle require System 7.5 or later, and will run on either 68K or PowerPC-based Macintoshes. Details of all three products are available on Open Door's Web site at http://www.opendoor.com. These details include:
